Know what you’re dealing with

Illegal drugs are substances where there are limits on who can own them or use them. Most illegal drugs are used by people to impair the brain – making them what is called “psychoactive” drugs. There are over 700 pharmaceutical and illicit compounds considered illegal drugs. That’s a lot!

Some illegal drugs are always illegal, no matter how much or when you use them. For example, heroin is illegal no matter what.

Other illegal drugs are illegal when used outside of their recommended use by a doctor, for example opioids or other prescription pain medications.

And some drugs will vary from state-to-state whether they’re illegal, like marijuana.
