Gastrointestinal Disease Testing
Having frequent stomach aches? Something not quite right? GI disease testing could provide the answers you need.
The gastrointestinal (GI) tract includes many organs and pathways that help your body metabolize the foods and drinks you consume. It starts with your mouth, travels down your esophagus into your stomach, and exits after traveling your small and large intestines.
With so much ground to cover, it’s not uncommon for problems to arise!
Occasional discomfort in the GI tract is normal – gas, bloating, constipation or diarrhea are not uncommon. Many also experience indigestion from time to time. However, experiencing these side effects frequently, especially if you can’t pinpoint the cause, may warrant a call to the doctor.
GI Disease Testing
There’s not a single simple test that can determine if you have GI disease. However, there’s a variety of blood tests that may be used to give clues about what’s going wrong:
- Pathogens panel – may pick up if you have a parasite or bacteria
- Liver panel
- Celiac disease testing
- CBC or CMP
We also offer an indigestion panel if you need a starting place to see if something’s wrong:
- CMP14, Comprehensive Metabolic Panel
- H-pylori, Helicobacter pylori Antibodies, IgG
It’s important to work with a doctor, primary care physician, or gastroenterologist to determine what’s causing you discomfort. They will likely recommend additional testing like a physical exam or potential endoscopy procedures.
